Flight sharing website Wingly has assembled what it calls “a trusted, international community uniting pilots and passengers” so people can find a pilot of their own for their next journey.

The platform has more than 21,000 pilots waiting to take passengers on 5,000 different flight routes, making it an affordable and genuine alternative to booking with an airline.

A recent article for the Daily Mail detailed how two people were able to get a return flight from England to France for just £119.

The two people were booked onto a four-seater Cessna plane for little more than £100, for a journey that took less than an hour.

I’m a private jet stewardess – here’s the worst thing rich customer made me do

It flew from Surrey and landed at the small seaside town of Le Touquet.

The passenger, Jonathan Ray claimed: “We met in the Pilot’s Hub Cafe in Hangar 9 where Steve, our pilot, joined us for a coffee and then invited us to wander over to his waiting four-seater Cessna 172.

“Some 45 minutes later we landed at Le Touquet-Paris-Plage Elizabeth II.

“Disembarking the plane, showing our passports, hiring two bikes, cycling to town and settling into the bar of the Hotel Barrière Le Westminster took all of 16 minutes.”

Wingly doesn’t just offer passengers the chance to travel cheaper either.

There are plenty of sightseeing tours available, with pilots taking passengers over the top of London, or places like Silverstone and the Isle of Wight.

One customer who did an Isle of Wight sightseeing tour said: “We had a fantastic time on our trip and our pilot was brilliant.

“He took the time to explain everything and made us feel very safe and secure.

“We would definitely recommend Wingly to our family and friends, it’s a great experience.”

Another who visited Land’s End wrote: “If you get the chance to do this it’s really worth it.

“The pilot was fantastic and really knowledgeable, would definitely do it again in the future.”
