Spain holiday warning as Covid rules still in place for Brits heading abroad during October half term

BRITS heading to Spain during the October half term will still have to follow some strict Covid rules, with the country yet to scrap all of its measures.

Most destinations have removed the regulations they put in place at the height of the pandemic, but Spain is remaining cautious for the time being.

If you are travelling from the UK to Spain there are three ways in which you can enter the country, according to their rules.

Firstly, you can show that you are fully vaccinated.

Your vaccination status must meet the Spanish authorities’ validity period requirements.

If you have received a booster, you are considered fully vaccinated for entry into Spain.

As soon as you receive your booster, you are considered fully vaccinated with immediate effect. There is currently no expiry date for booster jabs.

If you are aged 18 or over and have not received a booster, but have received two doses of a two-dose vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine approved for use by Spain, then at least 14 days and no more than 270 days must have passed since your last dose, to qualify as fully vaccinated.

If you are aged 12 to 17 and have not received the booster, but have received two doses of a two-dose vaccine or one dose of a single-dose vaccine approved for use by Spain, then at least 14 days must have passed since your last dose, to qualify as fully vaccinated.

You continue to qualify as fully vaccinated more than 270 days after your last dose and do not need to show proof of having received a booster to travel.

Children under the age of 12 years old do not need to show proof of being fully vaccinated.

Spain will accept the UK’s proof of Covid-19 vaccination record, but not your appointment card from your vaccination.

Unvaccinated travellers can still enter Spain by showing proof of a negative Covid test.

If using a PCR test, it must have been conducted within 72 hours prior to entering Spain.

If using a lateral flow test, it must have been conducted within 24 hours prior to arrival.

Visitors can also enter by proving recovery from Covid in the last 6 months.

This can be done using the UK’s proof of COVID-19 recovery record, or a recovery certificate issued by a relevant health authority or medical service to certify your COVID-19 status.

Once in Spain, tourists will be subject to other Covid measures, with temperature and visual checks at the airport on arrival not due to be scrapped until later this month.

Face masks are still mandatory on public transport, as well as in some public spaces.

Masks will also have to be worn on flights to and from Spain.
