CHAN 2022: We’re fortunate to have qualified – Black Galaxies captain Gladson Awako

Black Galaxies captain, Gladson Awako, says Ghana is fortunate to qualify for the 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) tournament.

He argues that the competition is necessary to give local players the platform to exhibit their talents amid opposition to the tournament from some quarters.

Some people are of the opinion that the CHAN, for players plying their trade in their domestic leagues, is unnecessary, but the Hearts of Oak midfielder has different views.

“It is a big competition and an opportunity for players in the local leagues to exhibit what we can do,” he said at Ghana’s pre-Madagascar presser.

“It will help show players on the African continent to exhibit our talents to the world and I believe we are fortunate to be at this tournament.”

Ghana will kick off their campaign against the Island nation this Sunday before encounters against Morocco and Sudan.

Awako is confident the Black Galaxies can emerge victorious if they can translate their pre-tournament form into the competition.

“We are very confident and looking at the camp, the boys are all in good shape.  The pre-tournament preparations and the friendlies have really helped us,” he added.

“If we are to carry the same momentum into the tournament, we will be successful. We are ready as a team.”
