Animal Control

The primary purpose of this animal control center is stray animal control.

Animal Control Officers are responsible for all domestic pet issues within Johnson City and Washington County. We do not handle wildlife of including but not limited to rats, raccoons, opossums, snakes, foxes and coyotes.

If you need assistance with a stray animal, please call 423-926-8769 between 12-5pm seven days a week.

If you have been involved with an animal bite, please call 423-926-8769 during operating hours or 911 after 5pm.

If we are picking up your own pet (alive or deceased), a charge of $10 will be assessed and collected by the officer at the time of pick-up. You must be home to sign a release for the animal. That fee also applies if we are picking up a stray cat caught in your own humane trap. There is no charge if you bring the animal in yourself.

If your pet has been impounded, a $30 Return to Owner fee is due at the time you claim the animal from the shelter. You must have proof of ownership (photo or veterinarian records) to claim a pet. If you do not have a current rabies vaccination for your pet, there is an additional $10 fee for that vaccination.

Non-Washington County residents are not allowed to bring animals to this shelter.
